The best family sessions aren't about getting everyone to smile at the camera at exactly the same time. They're about capturing the relationships, personalities and little moments that make your family yours.
Relaxed Is Better.
You don’t need perfectly behaved kids. You don’t need to know what to do with your hands. And you definitely don’t need to spend the whole session telling everyone to smile.
I’ll guide you through the photographs we need—the whole family, the kids together, individual portraits and different combinations—while leaving room for the spontaneous moments that often become the favorites.

Isn’t the Whole Family.
Some of my favorite images from family sessions are the individual portraits—the expressions and personalities that are easy to forget as kids grow.
We’ll make time for photographs of the whole family, but also for each child on their own and the relationships between siblings.
No elaborate posing. No asking them to be someone they’re not. Just really good photographs of who they are right now.
Coordinate. Don’t Match.
You don’t need matching white shirts and jeans.
Choose colors and textures that work well together without putting everyone in the same outfit. Neutrals, denim, layers and simple patterns usually photograph beautifully.
Most importantly, everyone should still look like themselves.

We’ll figure out what makes the most sense for your family before the session.
Natural light, room for kids to move around and a more relaxed lifestyle feel. We’ll choose the location and time based on the look you want and where your family is coming from.
Clean, simple and controlled. Studio sessions work especially well if you want more polished family portraits along with individual photographs of the kids.

Kids get distracted. They make weird faces. Sometimes they decide five minutes into a photoshoot that they’re completely finished with photography.
That’s okay.
We’ll keep things moving, take breaks when we need them and work with their personalities instead of trying to force every moment.

A Few Things Families Usually Ask.
How long is a family photography session?
Most family sessions last up to 60 minutes. That’s usually plenty of time to photograph the whole family along with smaller groupings and individual portraits.
Where will our family session take place?
Sessions can be photographed at F11 Studio or outdoors at a mutually agreed location. We’ll decide what works best based on the look you want and the ages of your children.
What should we wear?
Coordinate rather than match. Neutral colors, simple patterns and layers generally photograph well. I’m also happy to help with wardrobe choices before your session.
What if my kids don’t cooperate?
That’s normal. We keep things relaxed, move quickly when necessary and work around your children’s personalities rather than expecting them to pose perfectly for an hour.
Can grandparents or extended family join us?
Absolutely. The standard Family Portrait Session is designed for immediate families of up to six people. For larger or extended-family sessions, contact me for pricing.
How many photographs do we receive?
Your session includes 20 fully edited high-resolution digital images selected from your proof gallery. Additional finished images can be purchased for $25 each.
